ORIGINAL (AND NOT SO ORIGINAL) MUSIC

There seems to be, rightly so in my opinion, a striving for authenticity when it comes to music.

We want to make a connection with something that sounds, feels, IS authentic. For so many years I tried to compartmentalise my musical avenues. I was afraid that the people who loved my original music would be horrified and turned off if they found out I sang covers at private events, or that the people who liked the softer side of my songwriting would baulk at the thought of me doing anything vaguely dance oriented. So everything was carefully segregated and kept apart.

But then I realised, it’s probably more authentic for someone like me - someone who loves listening to, writing and performing all kinds of things - to own up to all of it and let it cross-pollinate, so to speak. So here’s where I’m laying out the many various ‘bands’ or ‘stage names’ I use to focus my many loves in the realm of songwriting and performing. There are snippets of music for each, maybe a bit of backstory and in the case of some an entire ‘invented history’ - kind of blurring the lines between fiction and music.

And to top it off, they’re all signed to my own label, ‘Ultradelic Records’ (some of the older acts’ compilations fall under ‘Ultradelic Heritage’).

And weirdly enough, the first ‘Artist’ name I’m releasing music under is one called ‘Gillan Edgar’. Confused? Not as much as me.
